Rural holiday rentals Andalucia

Built on a clifftop with narrow, winding streets, a semi-ruined castle at the top, and almost too picturesque to be true, Hornos is nevertheless a living village. It has small, personal-service grocery stores and a drugstore, a bar-restaurant, and even a weekly farmer's market.

Our flat had a cliff-edge balcony overlooking lake and olive groves, and a wood burning fireplace, was clean and well equipped, and the owners (who spoke excellent English) were very helpful and attentive, providing maps, walking routes, and useful advice when they found this was our main purpose.

Set in the Sierra de Seguras, a large mountain tract with much of historical interest, an extensive network of marked paths, and rich in wildlife. Overall, excellent either for a family holiday if you are outdoorsy; or for a romantic getaway.

We plan to return.
